The Stratum · a forecasting subnet for TAO
Above the cloud line, a subnet asks one question every tempo: where will TAO be? Miners answer with conviction. The chain keeps the score.
Time on the Stratum is cut into tempos of 72 minutes, the same rhythm as a Bittensor subnet. Each tempo opens one round, and each round asks the same thing: the average price of TAO over the next tempo. The clock below is computed from chain time, the price is read from the pool itself, right now.

Source: Uniswap V3 wTAO/WETH 1% pool 0x433a…1bBC (price = 1.0001tick × 109 / 1018) and Chainlink ETH/USD.
The pool keeps a ring of about 60 observations. Past that ring, observe() reverts OLD, so the strip only shows tempos whose two edges are still inside it. The last cell is the tempo in progress.
A forecast is a tick of the oracle pool and a bond of iTAO behind it. The bond is always returned. What you can win is the round's share of the emission pool, in wTAO.
NOT DEPLOYED. The subnet contract is not on Ethereum yet. The instrument below reads the real oracle so you can see what a forecast looks like, but nothing can be submitted, and no round, bond or consensus is shown until it is.

No validator reports a price and nobody can override one. The truth is the time-weighted average tick of the wTAO/WETH pool over the tempo being forecast, read from that pool's own oracle by the subnet contract.
iTAO trades in one place: a Uniswap V2 pair against wTAO on Ethereum. That pair is the subnet pool. Every buy and every sell pays a 5% tax, and the tax is what feeds the subnet.
Read in one call from state() and stats(). Nothing here is estimated.

iTAO is a subnet-style protocol on Ethereum that pays in wTAO. It is not a registered Bittensor netuid. It does not run on the Bittensor chain, it is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Opentensor Foundation, and it receives no TAO emissions from Bittensor. It borrows the shape of a subnet (tempos, miners, UIDs, a scored output) and settles everything on Ethereum.
Forecasting is a game of skill against a thin market. The iTAO pair is small, the 5% tax applies to both sides, and the opening liquidity is provided by the operator and is not locked. Nothing here is investment advice. Only use what you can afford to lose.
Once per round, a miner calls submit(tick, bond): a forecast of the next tempo's average oracle tick and at least 1,000 iTAO behind it. A second call in the same round moves the forecast and may add to the bond. Up to 256 miners per round, like the 256 UIDs of a subnet.
One public TAO forecast per 72-minute tempo: consensus(r), the bond-weighted average tick of round r. Any contract or person can read it. Intelligence for TAO, paid in TAO.
The 5% tax on buys and sells is collected in iTAO, converted to wTAO by selling into the pair (at most 1% of its iTAO reserve per conversion), and sent to the subnet contract. sync() splits it: 60% to the operator, 40% into the emission pool, which is 3 and 2 points of the 5.
The oracle is a Uniswap V3 pool, which records its price as a tick: price = 1.0001tick. For wTAO (9 decimals) against WETH (18 decimals), ETH per TAO = 1.0001tick × 109 / 1018. One tick is 0.01%. The console converts for you, in ETH and in USD via Chainlink.
The oracle pool can be moved by large trades for the duration of a tempo (a 72-minute average makes that expensive, not impossible). A tempo edge recorded late voids the round (bonds back). A round can fill up at 256 miners. Smart contracts can have bugs.
